Today I am so super excited to share this with you, because if you love designer, but you’re on a budget, you are going to love this one! Even if you’re not on a budget, I am confident you’re going to love this one.
And the item I am sharing with you today is the YSL Uptown pouch, aka this super gorgeous clutch. I bought this one from Ssense a few weeks ago, after seeing a picture of it on Facebook. And while I’m normally not an impulse buyer, it actually took me less than a day to click on the checkout button on this one, when I realised how difficult it was to find and that it was sold out pretty much everywhere else.
From my understanding, this is a newer product to YSL, and it’s actually a pouch which comes with one of their bags, the Uptown bag. So it’s actually not a clutch at all, but rather a skinny pouch. But if you look at the shape, and the flap, this really is like a clutch. Now, while a lot of other companies do less expensive pouches, they don’t typically have the clutch shape, but rather a zipper on the top and are very casual. This one, however, comes with a flap and for all intents and purposes, is what I would call a clutch. I can also put a chain under the flap, which makes it very practical for me, as opposed to a regular pouch.
AND the price! I can absolutely see why this one keeps selling out, because it functions as such a classy looking clutch at a much lower price than what you typically pay for designer clutches. This one was 345 euros, and then I had to pay tax, so the whole thing came in at about 395 euros. I think that is an absolute steal for what it is, and more so, compared to what other designers charge for similar products. I have even seen designer houses charge in the ballpark of 300 euros and up for a pouch with a zipper that isn’t even made of leather! I have to honestly say I have never come across something that affordable with such great value for money
Even YSL have their chevron pouches with zippers, which start at 500 euros, and their actual clutches start at around 1000 and up. Valentino may be the fashion house where I’ve seen the most similar thing, and theirs start at 200 euros more than the YSL one. So I really think this is such a hidden gem! They also have one which is more square in size, if that’s more your thing.
So this is the black box leather, which is a shiny, smooth treated leather, but it also comes in mock croc, which is so beautiful, and in a couple of different colours. I just love how classic looking this piece is, it’s so instantly YSL with the gold metal hardware, and the clean lines means this pieces will never go out of style.
Now, the measurements, this one measures 27 x 16 and 2 in width. And I will say that it is not big, it is definitely a clutch. I’ll show you what I can fit in it, which is my phone, my card holder, my key holder and some lip products. So it fits a fair bit for being so skinny, but you may have to play a bit of tetris if your items are bulky, like my ratchet key holder. But this is often all I need when I leave the house, so I actually get a fair bit of use out of this.
I was always a bit apprehensive about spending a lot of money on a designer clutch, because I worried I would only use it for events and it would suck to spend so much money on something I would use so rarely. So this felt like such a good way to go about it and I have been really surprised with how often I can wear this, for me it’s perfect as a grab and go kind of clutch. When I bought this I thought it would be so perfect to wear to dressier events, and I will use it for that, but I have worn this just running errands, and even to go get fast food! I usually just hook the chain under the flap, and because the magnet is strong and the bag can’t get too heavy, I’ve not had an issue with it. I know it might get some wear from the chain, so I try to not always use it, and I went for a really flat chain that hopefully won’t rub as much.
I am so impressed with this clutch, it feels so luxurious, it looks way more expensive than it is and I am so happy that I have it in my collection. I obviously haven’t used it for very long yet, so I will do an updated review on how it holds up at some point in the future. I know this hasn’t been hyped that much yet, but I feel like this will only become more and more popular.
