If a wardrobe update is on the horizon with the changing seasons, I would recommend making sure you have these 5 classic items ticked off your list, before delving into more trendy autumn options.

Fitted blazer

After season upon season of over sized blazers, the fitted or cinched in blazer has finally come back into the trend picture. In a crystal-ball moment, I saved mine from a few years ago, knowing it would not be long until they would again be on-trend. However, my crystal ball neglected to tell me I would gain weight and no longer fit those blazers. Best laid plans and all that. However, I will not panic, I will add one (and try to do only one) beautifully fitted blazer to my wardrobe this season. And perhaps sell my old ones that no longer fit? Either way, this is a great piece that is an eternal classic, trendy or not!

Trench coat

Just as versatile for autumn, as it is for spring! A trench coat is an absolute essential in my wardrobe and the perfect layering piece for uncertain weather. Although I love my over sized and more statement versions of this iconic piece, the classic version will never let you down.

Knit dress

After relying so much on dresses throughout summer, I dread packing them away when the seasons change. But getting to put on a knit dress instantly makes me feel so chic and cosy! A dress is such an easy way to make it look like you put thought into your outfit, when you only had a few minutes to get dressed in the morning. Knit dress + accessories + layering piece if the weather demands it, and you’re done! I love both my neutral dresses that require exactly zero brain power to style and my colourful statement knit dresses.

Boots

Shoes can make or break the outfit, so I always find it worthwhile to invest in a really good pair of boots for autumn. Make sure it’s a pair that not only matches your other go-to accessories but also a style and heel height that suits your lifestyle.

Classic Denim

Autumn means jeans are back on the menu and you cannot go wrong with a pair of really classic jeans – not too skinny, not too wide, not too high, or, as is currently plaguing us: not too low waist.

Going for something more on the classic side rather than the trendy is more versatile and it will be wearable for years to come.
