One of my favorite wardrobe changes in the last couple of years? Investing in loungewear. Throughout the working from home situation the pandemic brought us, I have a) really inspected every corner of every room in my house and b) realized that it’s a waste to spend my days at home wearing worn out clothes I don’t like. Because I am simply happier when I like my outfit.
So I started by buying a couple of nicer loungewear sets and I was instantly converted. They are super comfortable – even more so than my old sweats and stained shirts – and they still look so infinitely chic. I no longer try to only half-open the door when the doorbell rings or being embarrassed running into neighbors on the stroll over to my mailbox.
I think there are just a few keys to getting loungewear to look chic and pulled together.
- The first is that it should obviously not look ragged. Meaning, these are not your regular clothes that have been demoted from public wear. That defeats the whole purpose of loving your outfits at home – I love the self care aspect of making every day special by wearing a nice outfit.
- I personally love looking for ribbed versions of these sets, both cardigans and jumpers, and the same for the trousers. It tends to give a really elevated look to loungewear – it makes it look more pulled together and adds a lot of interest, without sacrificing any comfort.
- Color match. I love the look of matching sets – it just looks really intentional. But since I now have a few sets, all in neutral beige, tans and blacks, they also actually pair nicely with each other and still look intentional, just a little more relaxed.
- Get the best quality you can. I have actually made a video about how you can spot whether a garment is high quality or not, and the same will apply to your loungewear, so check that out if you haven’t already. But I personally really prioritize materials and checking that the knit is somewhat firm. Because I tend to repeat my loungewear outfits a whole lot more than my regular outfits, I feel it can be justified to spend on something that will last through many many wears and washes. But I have had a few fantastic sets from H&M that were really affordable (and a few that looked worn and awful after 3-4 wears, because they had acrylic fabric).
- Pay attention that you don’t get something that is difficult to clean!
So, what’s on my wish list currently? Let me show you, there are so many good option and fall is peak season for finally getting some fantastic loungewear.
The newest set into my wardrobe – this looks so elegant in cream and with the collar on the cardigan.
Arket has so many fantastic loungewear options, this entire post could be on their selection alone. But these cashmere trousers and oversized turtleneck is next up on my shopping list come payday.
This set is seriously luxe, if you’re after a splurge.
More beautiful ribbed options and wrap tops – the COS one looks so elegant.
